A Tribute to Willie Leece
Harvey Briggs reported in the Isle of Man Examiner, dated 17th July 2007, that Willie Leece and his constant companion, his dog Gyp, both died on the same day at Ballaoates, St Johns. Willie died in the farm house in which he had been born and where he lived all his 69 years. He and his brother Joe farmed Ballaoates, with Willie looking after the breeding and welfare of the livestock. Willie had the great gift of being content with his life as a farmer. The Methodist Minister conducting his funeral service told the congregation that in the afternoon of Willie's death his faithful dog, Gyp, died too. "They will be reunited in heaven," she said.
